 Early Years Programme - Harrods
International Academy, Phnom Penh

Welcome to our Early Years programme, designed to introduce young learners to the fundamentals of cognitive and linguistic development in a nurturing environment with a globally-recognised international approach

THE EARLY YEARS EXPERIENCE IN HARRODS

At Harrods, our Early Years programme is guided by the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) alongside the principles of the Montessori Philosophy, creating a rich and engaging learning environment. These approaches focus on nurturing each child’s natural curiosity and independence through play-based activities and inquiry-led experiences that develop essential cognitive and language skills. We prioritise creating a safe, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed campus that supports both comfort and functionality. Alongside academic growth, our programme places strong emphasis on social-emotional development, ensuring every child feels supported as they begin their learning journey.

Harrods’ Early Years programme stands out by combining the internationally recognised IEYC framework with the Montessori Philosophy, offering a unique blend of structured inquiry and child-led exploration. This dual approach nurtures independence, creativity, and a love of learning from the very beginning, while supporting each child’s cognitive, social, and emotional development in a warm and carefully prepared environment. With experienced educators who personalise learning to suit individual needs and a focus on holistic growth, Harrods creates a foundation that empowers young learners to thrive confidently both inside and beyond the classroom.

A WARM WELCOME FROM THE HEAD OF EARLY YEARS

Welcome to Harrods Early Years, where we believe that the earliest stages of learning are the most important in shaping a child’s future. Our programme combines the best of the IEYC and Montessori approaches to create a nurturing, inspiring environment where every child is encouraged to explore, discover, and grow at their own pace. With a strong focus on curiosity, independence, and social-emotional wellbeing, our experienced educators are dedicated to supporting each child’s unique journey. I am proud to lead a community where young learners feel safe, valued, and excited to begin their lifelong adventure in education.

THE EARLY YEARS ENVIRONMENT

Here at Harrods, ensuring that our students feel safe and comfortable while on our campus is our priority. With that in mind, we place a lot of care in designing spaces that promote a sense of belonging while also encapsulating the very essence of curiosity and discovery.

Our approach to delivering the best education to our students is by focusing on the students themselves. By having a smaller group of students conducted by our esteemed educators in every session, we can provide the most care and attention to our students, ensuring that they develop to the best of their potential at their own pace.

Modest Student Size Per Lesson Conducted

In our efforts to nurture our students holistically, we have spaces that cater to our students’ needs. From classrooms facilitated for learning to libraries and rest rooms for students to leisurely relax and play, we have ample spaces that go beyond just form and function.

Creating A Safe And Welcoming Space

Students on campus are under proper supervision at all times. With regular fire drills to routine hygiene and safety courses, we regard students’ safety with the highest importance. Our classrooms are equipped with safety measures ranging from immediate aid to unexpected emergencies. Part of maintaining the well-being of our students, the programme also includes designated naptime and a balanced meal.

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT ALONG THE STUDENT’S JOURNEY

At Harrods, we recognise that parents play a vital role in their child’s early learning and development. We maintain open and regular communication through daily updates, parent-teacher meetings, and informal chats to keep families connected and informed. Parents are warmly invited to join special activities such as classroom visits, reading days, and seasonal celebrations, offering meaningful opportunities to engage with their child’s learning. We also provide guidance and support during key milestones and transitions, ensuring parents feel confident and involved every step of the way. Together, we build a strong partnership that nurtures each child’s growth and wellbeing from the very start.

Equipped to facilitate

A campus is not complete without its accompanying facilities. Here at HIA, we believe in creating spaces that are not only conducive for learning but with a strong emphasis on caring for the wellbeing of our students.

We also offer access to on-site school nurses and counsellors who provide gentle care and guidance, creating a safe and nurturing environment where Early Years students feel supported and valued.

FAQ

The IEYC is a play-based, child-centred curriculum designed for children aged 2 to 5. It focuses on holistic development through fun, theme-based learning experiences that support young children’s cognitive, emotional, and physical growth.

IEYC uniquely integrates international best practices in early childhood education with thematic learning. It places strong emphasis on inquiry, exploration, and real-world connections, making learning meaningful and enjoyable for young children.

IEYC covers key areas such as Communication & Language, Personal & Social Development, Numeracy, Literacy, Knowledge & Understanding of the World, Creative Expression, and Physical Development – all through engaging, age-appropriate themes.

Learning is observed and documented through portfolios, teacher notes, and continuous formative assessments. The focus is on individual progress, development milestones, and ensuring children are supported in their unique learning journeys.

Play is central to IEYC. It is through purposeful, guided play that children explore concepts, express ideas, and develop essential skills. The curriculum supports both structured and free play to balance creativity and learning.

Parents are viewed as partners in their child’s education. We offer regular communication, parent-teacher conferences, learning journeys, and celebrations of learning where children can showcase their progress and achievements.
