Early Years School
Quality education begins in the early years. These are the years when children are building their language and social skills. They’re learning the definition of acceptable behaviour and discovering how to get along with others. Academically, these youngsters are discovering the wonders of their world, from how the sand feels to whether it’s possible to build a block tower taller than a classmate. Along the way, they’re discovering what it means to be part of a caring community and how to play a responsible, active part in it.
The early years school at Harrods International Academy uses the GMP (Global Montessori Plus) method and the IEYC (International Early Years Curriculum) to introduce our youngest students to the joy and wonder of learning. Classrooms are hands-on and highly interactive, with plenty of space for movement and activity, and learning is play-focused. Our early childhood classrooms are inclusive and multicultural, and students are encouraged to celebrate their differences and learn from one another. Kindness plays a huge role at Harrods International Academy, and it begins in our early year’s classrooms with our youngest students. Among the private schools in Phnom Penh, Harrods International Academy is a stand-out option for families relocating to Cambodia.
Primary Years Education in Cambodia
Students in Grades 1 to 6 attend the primary year’s programme at Harrods International Academy. During these formative years, students follow the IPC (International Primary Curriculum), which focuses on themed units and transdisciplinary education. Educators have more than 130 cross-curricular units from which to choose, and students learn to apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios to affect positive change in their communities. As a result, students have a well-rounded experience that benefits them in every aspect of life.
The IPC focuses on three types of learning goals that include:
- Academic goals
- Personal goals
- International goals
The IPC is taught in more than 90 countries around the globe and is fast becoming the gold standard in international primary school education.
Secondary Years Programme
Secondary students at most international schools in Cambodia follow the Cambridge IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) and Harrods International Academy is no exception. The IGCSE is designed to foster creative thinking as well as individual curiosity. It’s the world’s most recognised curriculum for teens between the ages of 14 and 16.
The Cambridge IGCSE offers more than 70 academic subjects from which schools can choose, at least 30 of which are language programmes. The IGCSE offers clearly defined goals and objectives, which makes the transition between schools seamless for students who must transfer mid-year.

How Our Core Values Are Reflected in Our Classrooms
The students and faculty of Harrods International Academy have various opportunities throughout the year to take part in global celebrations such as World Humanitarian Day, International Mother Tongue Day and International Day of Peace. School events recognise and celebrate these important milestones every month and all students are encouraged to participate.
From day one, we involve our parents and families with events such as Open House, Parent Orientation Day and the annual parents’ BBQ.
We regularly recognise and reward students for their personal accomplishments, both at a classroom level and during schoolwide events such as student recognition ceremonies, the House Art Competition and our annual graduation ceremony.
As a part of the established Global Schools Foundation, Harrods International Academy adheres to a rigorous routine. This helps students better manage their time and take responsibility for their progress.
How Our Core Values Encourage Good Global Citizenship
The world needs leaders who are empathetic, kind and compassionate. It will need leaders who are fearless in taking responsibility and can make good decisions based on experience and information. These leaders must be future-ready, with skills in technology and communication that allow them to function well in any scenario. It is essential for them to have a growth mindset that allows them to change and adapt to dynamic circumstances.
At Harrod’s International Academy, these are the objectives we strive to reach every day. Beginning with our youngest students and progressing through every grade level, our core values are taught and revisited regularly. Students are encouraged to accept their differences and celebrate their individuality at every opportunity.
